NURSING HOME ABUSE ATTORNEYS MICHAEL RINGOLD AND EUGENE HORN REPRESENTING ELDERLY VICTIM OF ABUSE DOCUMENTED ON VIDEOTAPE

Marlton, NJ (March 17, 2011) -Michael Ringold, Esq. and Eugene Horn, Esq. are representing the estate of Modesta Alvarado whose abuse in a nursing home was videotaped by a concealed “nanny cam,” which the victim’s loved ones had placed in her room. Mrs. Alvarado, the 87-year-old, paralyzed and terminally ill North Bergen woman died January 16, 2011 following the alleged physical abuse by former Harborage Nursing Home aide Julia Galvan.

The lawyers confirmed published reports that the January 15, 2011 repeated striking of Mrs. Alvarado, as well as the aide’s unauthorized removal of the resident’s oxygen mask, was recorded on the so-called “nanny cam” installed in her room after her family suspected mistreatment. Criminal charges are pending against the aide.

Michael Ringold, a partner in the Marlton-based firm Dansky, Katz, Ringold, & York, and Eugene Horn of Horn Law, located in Jersey City, both of whom concentrate their practice in nursing home abuse cases, are serving as co-counsel. The family of Mrs. Alvarado retained Mr. Horn and Mr. Ringold shortly after the victim’s death to ensure that there is complete accountability by those responsible for the senseless and callous harm inflicted. “The loved ones have asked us to do everything possible to obtain justice under the civil statutes of the State of New Jersey,” Mr. Ringold explained. “And they want to do their part through the justice system to help prevent a similar unspeakable tragedy from occurring to another innocent, defenseless elderly person.”

Mr. Ringold and Mr. Horn emphasized that their representation would in no way impede the ongoing criminal prosecution of the aide, and the family has been totally cooperative with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
