New Jersey Cop Injured After Being Hit by Alleged Drunk Driver

We owe a debt of gratitude to the police officers who serve our New Jersey communities. Without them putting themselves in harm’s way to protect our safety, the stability of our communities would be absent. Sometimes, officers are injured in the line of duty not as a result of tangling with a dangerous criminal but from being hurt by a dangerous or negligent driver.

Recently, in Lodi, an officer was in his patrol car at about 2 in the morning when he was hit by an alleged drunk driver. A fellow officer had reported trouble with his police radio, so the officer pulled over to assist him. The impact of the crash was so severe that the officer was trapped inside his car; he was reported to have head injuries as well as broken bones.

Rather than staying at the scene, the drunk driving suspect then allegedly got out of his vehicle and ran away into a residential neighborhood. Not long after, he was arrested by police. The man who was arrested is a high school teacher and track coach who was scheduled to be coaching at a track meet only a few hours after the accident took place.

A drunk driving accident can be devastating for the victims and their families. Aside from medical expenses that might be incurred, people who have been injured in car accidents could be unable to work for an extended period of time. Experienced attorneys can help victims of car accidents recover the expenses that they need to help get their lives back in order.
