Apparently Distracted Driver Crashes Into Elderly Woman’s Car

We often read about the perils of using a mobile phone will driving. Many public service campaigns have been directed toward trying to keep people from texting while behind the wheel; however, just about any manner in which people use their phones while driving, including in hands-free mode, has the potential to be dangerous.

Recently, in Raritan Township, a 28-year-old man was alleged to have crossed the center line while driving and plowed into the vehicle of an 85-year-old woman who was traveling in the opposite direction. According to officials at the scene, the man was using his cellphone to obtain driving directions.

Fortunately, the car accident was not as severe as it could have been. Both drivers involved in the accident were injured, however. They both suffered leg injuries as a result of the collision and were taken to a nearby hospital. Due to the fact that the young man was trapped in his vehicle for an extended period of time, officials elected to airlift him to receive medical treatment.

A distracted driver can wreak havoc on the roads. As we said, it’s fortunate that the accident wasn’t worse, but it still is likely to cause its share of trouble. The young man was cited for being an uninsured motorist, meaning that the victim could have difficulty recovering compensation for her injuries as well as any damage to her vehicle.

Whenever New Jersey residents are injured through no fault of their own, an experienced car accident attorney might be able to advise them of their rights under the law.
