Woman Awarded $73 Million in Personal Injury Lawsuit

This month, a Dallas-based woman won a $73 million lawsuit against Boston Scientific Corp. She sued the medical device company over injuries and pain caused by its pelvic mesh products.

Boston Scientific Corp is now facing 12,000 lawsuits over these products, which are used for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence.

The woman in this case suffered severe complications from surgery that occurred three years ago, when a Obtryx sling was inserted, causing immediate pain and eventually cutting through her urethra.

Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there. The woman is still suffering from pain, incontinence, infection, and bleeding from nerve damage years later. What makes this matter even worse is that this mesh device is impossible to remove safely.

Boston Scientific Corp is not alone when it comes to the issue of pelvic mesh devices. Collectively, companies such as Johnson & Johnson, C.R. Bard, Boston Scientific, and other such companies face over 40,000 related lawsuits.

When it comes to medical malpractice, there is no such thing as a minor error. While the woman may have won her case and received a large compensation package, the personal injury that resulted from her surgery will stay with her forever.
