Ensuring that seniors are cared for physically, mentally, and emotionally should be the cornerstones of assisted living and nursing home facilities – especially when it comes to those seniors who have risked their lives to serve and protect their country.
A 92-year-old World War II veteran has filed a lawsuit against a nursing home for extreme neglect. He survived D-Day and the storming of Omaha beach, only to fight for his life during his residency in a nursing home.
How did this man go from feeling great in the morning to nearly dying later that evening?
He was given a large dose of narcotics, so much so that he almost overdosed on the drugs. What makes this worse is that the medicines were never prescribed or approved. When he tested positive for opiates, he and his family were surprised and taken aback. He was not even aware of what narcotics were, and he and his family do not know where the nursing home staff got the drugs that he was given.
While this particular person is lucky to have a family looking out for his best interests, he expresses his concern for others in the nursing home community saying, “I got a whole tribe of people watching out for me, but what about those poor old people that lay there and would like a few more days of life and don’t get them?”
